Bihar resident sentenced to life imprisonment, fined Rs 50,000 in POCSO case: Ganderbal Police

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday secured life imprisonment for an accused involved in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The conviction was awarded by the Hon’ble Principal Sessions Judge, Ganderbal.

The accused, Varinder Thakur, son of Yadav Lal Thakur, resident of Sariswa, Bihar, has been sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.

The court has also awarded 1 year imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,000 under Section 342 IPC, and 2 years imprisonment and a fine of ₹2,000 under Section 506 IPC.

The prosecution was conducted by Mr. Shafat Ahmad Bhat (PP), while Mr. Jehangir Rafiqi (PP) argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.

The investigation was carried out by PSI Rayees Ahmad, whose efforts led to the successful conviction.

Ganderbal Police reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable sections of society and ensuring that offenders involved in such crimes are brought to justice. — (KIMS)
