Communal Harmony: Muslims help perform last rites of Pandit lady in Pulwama’s Tahab village

PULWAMA — Setting an example of communal harmony and brotherhood, local Muslims in Tahab village of Pulwama district in South Kashmir came together to help perform the last rites of a pandit lady.

Usha Devi, a 55-year-old Pandit lady died in Tahab village on Thursday evening after brief illness while her last rites were performed on Friday.

The locals from Muslim community made arrangements in performing her last rites and ferried firewood for helping the family to cremate the deceased.

Usha’s husband Maharaj Pandit is a retired employee at Airforce Station in Awantipora Pulwama.

“She has been living here among us for many years. We have lived alongside each other and done everything together. In her final journey also we are with her,” said locals.

“Everytime we celebrate each and every festival with our Pandit community and always come forward to help and support them in their tough times,” locals added. — (KIMS)
