NEW DELHI — Former Union Minister P Chidambaram has expressed confidence that Congress will win the assembly polls in Haryana and form government in Jammu and Kashmir with its ally National Conference, saying that the party’s long-established policies and approach will be accepted by the people.
“We are confident that the Congress party’s long-established policies and approach will be accepted by the people. For a short time, it might appear that another ideology and another set of policies have won but in the long run, it is the Congress party’s policies and ideology that will be acceptable to the people and I hope that the results of the elections in Haryana and J&K will prove my point,” Chidambaram told ANI.
Chidambaram, MP, expressed his condolences on the death of five persons due to “excess heat and other medical conditions” in the Chennai IAF air show on Sunday.
“It is unfortunate, sad. Fifteen lakh people have witnessed the air force exercise…I hope that the state government will be generous and will offer some compensation to the families,” he said.
Votes will be counted for assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana on October 8.
Exit polls predicted a clear victory of Congress in Haryana and National Conference-Congress alliance being ahead of its rivals in Jammu and Kashmir. — (ANI)
