Four drug peddlers arrested in Srinagar, Kulgam; psychotropic substance seized

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — While continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested four drug peddlers in Srinagar and Kulgam districts on Tuesday and recovered 13 bottles of Codeine Phosphate and 250 grams of Poppy Straw like substance from their possession.

“A vehicle (Venue) bearing Registration Number UP16CN-8991, coming from Barbarshah towards Babdamb was intercepted by a party of police of Police Post Banamohallah at a checkpoint established at Babdamb road near Stadium with two persons identified as Ilyas Ahmad Dar, son of Mohd Ramzan Dar of Dar Mohallah Old Barzulla, Sanat Nagar and Manzoor Ahmad Dar, son of Late Bashir Ahmad Dar of Tengpora Srinagar on board. During search of the vehicle, 13 bottles of Codeine Phosphate were recovered,” police said in a statement.

In a similar incident, two drug peddlers were arrested in Kulgam district.

“Two drug peddlers, identified as, Mashooq Ahmad Hella, son of Abdul Rashid of Batpora Kulgam and Shabir Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir of Okey Kulgam were arrested after their vehicle (Tata Mobile) bearing Registration Number JK18D-4327 was intercepted by a team of police during patrolling at Kaharwath village in Kulgam district. During search, 250 grams of Poppy Straw like substance filled in a bag was recovered from their possession,” the statement said.

“They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody and the vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized,” the statement added.

Accordingly, cases vide FIR No. 50/2024 has been registered in Srinagar Police Station and vide FIR No. 177/2024 at Police Station Kulgam under relevant sections of law and further investigation has been taken up. — (KIMS)
