Fresh spell of rain, snow likely in J&K from Jan 19: MeT

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Meteorological Department (MeT) on Saturday said that Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness a fresh spell of rain and snowfall from January 19 onwards, while the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy till then.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather on January 17 and 18 is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy, with the possibility of light snowfall over isolated higher reaches.

The department said that from January 19 to 20, the weather is likely to remain generally cloudy, with light to moderate rain or snowfall at scattered to fairly widespread places across Jammu and Kashmir.

It further said on January 21, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy, with light snowfall over isolated higher reaches.

The department said that a wet spell is expected from the evening of January 22 to January 25, during which generally cloudy conditions with light to moderate rain or snowfall at most places are expected.

“There is a possibility of heavy rain or snowfall over a few districts of the Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal range and parts of South Kashmir during January 23 and 24,” the department said.

According to the MeT, on January 26, light rain or snowfall is expected at scattered places, while weather conditions are likely to improve thereafter.

Meanwhile, the summer capital Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.2°C, Qazigund minus 3.4°C, Kupwara minus 2.2°C, Kokernag minus 2.0°C, Pahalgam minus 2.6°C and Gulmarg minus 4.2°C on Saturday.

The winter capital Jammu recorded 4.6°C, Katra 7.4°C, Batote 5.7°C, Banihal 0.6°C and Bhaderwah 1.5°C.

In Ladakh, Leh recorded minus 7.0°C and Kargil minus 5.1°C as the minimum temperature. — (KIMS)
