SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday announced a cash reward of Rs 2 crore for the players and support staff of Jammu and Kashmir team following their historic Ranji Trophy triumph over Karnataka cricket team on their home turf.
Congratulating the team on their landmark achievement, the Chief Minister described the victory as a watershed moment for Jammu & Kashmir cricket, saying it has filled the entire region with pride and inspiration.
He said the players would also be entitled to government appointments under the recently notified rules for outstanding sportspersons, in recognition of their exceptional performance and contribution to the sport.
The Jammu and Kashmir cricket team scripted history by clinching their maiden Ranji Trophy title in 67 years, marking a significant milestone in the region’s sporting journey.
In the final against Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir delivered a commanding all-round performance. Qamran Iqbal scored an unbeaten 160, while Sahil Lotra struck a composed 101 not out. With the ball, Auqib Nabi turned the game decisively in J&K’s favour, claiming a five-wicket haul to seal the historic win. — (KIMS)
