KULGAM — A militant affiliated with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit was killed in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Khandipora area of Kulgam district in South Kashmir on Saturday.
Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Khandipora area of Kulgam district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.
They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
In the encounter one militant of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen outfit was killed and he has been identified as Rasiq Ahmed Ganie, son of Mohd Amin Ganie, a resident of Shouch Kulgam.
Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 303 Rifle along with 23 rounds, Pistol along with 31 rounds, 1 Hand grenade etc were recovered from the site of encounter.
According to police statement, Rasiq was a categorized militant. He was involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/security forces and civilian atrocities. — (KIMS)
