SRINAGAR — The Meteorological Department on Saturday forecast widespread rain and thunderstorm in plains and snowfall in higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir for next 24 hours.
The weather was inclement during last 24 hours as rain lashed the plains while higher reaches of the Union Territory including famous hill stations Sonamarg and Gulmarg received light snowfall.
An official of the Meteorological Department said, Widespread rain/thunderstorm in plains and light snowfall in the hills is likely in the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
He said, Srinagar recorded 5.8 degrees Celsius while Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded minus 0.5 degrees Celsius and minus 1.0 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature in Kashmir region on Saturday.
In Jammu region, he said, Jammu recorded 13.2 degrees Celsius, Katra 10.0 degrees Celsius, Batote 3.5 degrees Celsius, Banihal 2.2 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah 3.0 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.
In Ladakh region, he said, Drass recorded minus 1.1 degrees Celsius, Kargil 0.2 degrees Celsius and Leh minus 3.2 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature. — (KIMS)
