J&K Congress pays heartfelt tributes to party veterans, former CMs

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Thursday held a function at the Srinagar Party office to remember the contributions and selfless services of party veterans and former Chief Ministers G.M. Sadiq, Syed Mir Qasim, and former Minister Jenab G.M. Mir (Lasjan).

JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra, accompanied by senior party colleagues, eminent journalists, and intellectuals, paid heartfelt tributes to the leaders who played pivotal roles in the inclusive development of J&K.

The function began with Moulana Noorani and Moulvi Amin reciting the Holy Quran for the eternal peace of the departed souls, followed by Fateh Khawani for G.M. Sadiq, Syed Mir Qasim, and G.M. Mir Lasjan. Participants also observed a two-minute silence to honor the contributions of these stalwarts.

Speaking on the occasion, JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra said, “We remember the unwavering commitment of these party veterans to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and the wellbeing of its people. Their remarkable leadership qualities and dedication to empowering the most vulnerable sections of society, particularly those living below the poverty line, continue to inspire us.”

Karra emphasized that these leaders remained closely connected to the people and had a lasting impact on society.

Their vast knowledge of the socio-political scenario in J&K and across the country made them exemplary figures who tirelessly worked to empower every section of society.

Former Union Minister and JKPCC President Prof. Saifuddin Soz also spoke on the occasion, highlighting the contributions of G.M. Sadiq, Syed Mir Qasim, and G.M. Mir Lasjan.

He stressed the need for the younger generation to understand and appreciate the selfless services rendered by these leaders, who devoted their lives to the inclusive development of J&K.

Soz noted that their tireless struggles and legacy would remain an enduring source of inspiration.

Other senior leaders, including former legislator Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, Nizam Ud Din Bhat, Irfan Hafeez Lone, Surinder Singh Channi, Abdul Rashim Rather, and Mahila President Shameema Raina, also shared their thoughts.

Eminent guests such as G.N. Mir Lasjan, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Farooq Mir, Zahoor Ahmad Malik, and others participated in the event.

Additionally, Ghulam Nabi Wani Kothso, a PDP leader from Pahalgam, joined Congress during the function.
