SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir Students Association here today urged the Home Minister Amit Shah and Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi to withdraw circular of profiling Jammu and Kashmiri students in different educational institutions of Punjab and Chandigarh.
In a statement, National Spokesperson of Association Nasir Khuehami said that, after Bangalore number of educational institutions in Panjab and Chandigarh have been asked to provide details of the students immediately hailing from Jammu and Kashmir containing the current address, permanent address, email address & mobile number, along with details of courses.
He said that, Panjab University, it’s affiliated colleges asked to provide details on students from Jammu and Kashmiri immediately. Government of India special bureau additional commissioner has asked Panjab University, and its affiliated colleges to furnish details on Jammu and Kashmir students for official record purpose. They also sent a communication to Panjab university registrar in this regard.
Khuehami said, this move is quite discriminatory and prejudicial to Jammu and Kashmiri students. While no students of other state or Union territory of India are asked to furnish such details, the profiling of J&K students is serving an impediment and obstacle to the integration of Jammu and Kasmiri youth to India. Such measures alienate and estrange the youth of Kashmir in general and students studying across India in particular. Reconciliation with the students is the only way to further the cause of engaging with the students of Jammu and Kashmir, he said
The profiling has caused scepticism among students and is has become reason for immense anxiety and vexation of Kashmiri students studying in Punjab state and Chandigarh Union Territory. It is strange that the authorities chose to target only Jammu and Kashmiri students. Was it to suggest that our students are different and not part of the country, khuehami asked.
Punjab State Coordinator Aasif Amin and Chandigarh Union territory Coordinator Danish Manzoor of Association in a Joint statement, also requested Home Minister Amit Shah and Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit singh Channi to personally look into the matter immediately in it and take immediate steps to revoke the circular, so that no sort of community profiling will be done at the departments of any college and Universities in Punjab and Chandigarh. We entreat Home Minister to kindly intervene in the matter and issue directions for cessation of this invidious profiling of Jammu and Kashmiri students, so that the students continue their education without any discomfort and trouble, they added. — (KDC)
