SRINAGAR — A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Salinder forests in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district while as militants managed to give slip to the forces in an encounter at Marhama village in Anantnag district of South Kashmir on Wednesday.
Reports said an encounter broke out between government forces and militants at Salinder forests in Bandipora district in North Kashmir in which one militant affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit identified as Gulzar Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Wussan Pattan area of Baramulla district was killed.
They said another encounter broke out between government forces and militants at Marhama village in Bijbehara town of Anantnag district in South Kashmir. However militants managed to give slip to to forces.
Incriminating material, arms and ammunition including 01 AK rifle and 03 magazines were recovered from encounter site in Bandipora.
According to police, “the killed militant was a part of newly infiltrated militant group”.
Police in a statement said, “the killed militant exfilitrated in year 2018 & remained there for 3 years & 6 months before infiltrating back in the last week of April”.
Earlier, a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Salinder forests in Bandipora district and Marhama village in Anantnag district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter. — (KIMS)
