SRINAGAR (KIMS) — A local militant was killed in an encounter between security forces and militants in Dachigam area of Srinagar district in Central Kashmir on Tuesday.
According to reports, the encounter broke out after a joint team of security forces, including the J&K Police and CRPF, launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) in the upper reaches of Dachigam forest, following the specific inputs about presence of militants in the area.
As the joint team of security forces approached the suspected spot, the militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
In the encounter, a militant identified as Junaid Ahmad Bhat, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit was killed.
“Junaid was involved in an attack in Gagangeer area of Sonamarg in Ganderbal district on October 20 that left seven people including a doctor dead and other militant acts,” police said. — (KIMS)
