Making passengers change trains will defeat the purpose of Srinagar-Delhi Rail Route: Omar Abdullah

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Amid reports suggesting a change of trains at Katra Railway Station, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah criticized the move, stating it would defeat the purpose of the Srinagar-Delhi rail route.

While acknowledging the importance of ensuring the security of the train and its passengers, Omar strongly opposed the proposed plan requiring passengers to switch trains.

“Making passengers change trains will defeat the very purpose of the line and render the thousands of crores of investment pointless,” he wrote in a post on X.

He supported conducting security checks at stations like Katra or Jammu but firmly added, “No change of train will be supported by us.”

Omar further clarified, “There is currently no concrete proposal regarding this. When there is, we will provide inputs and suggestions.”

Reports suggest that the anticipated direct train service between Srinagar and Delhi may not materialize due to security concerns. Passengers would have to deboard at Katra or Jammu for security checks and board another train to continue their journey. — (KIMS)
