Militants escape from encounter site in Shopian

SHOPIAN — Militants have managed to escape from encounter site in Check Nowgam village in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A brief exchange of fire took place between government forces and militants in the village in which three army personnel were injured.

They were identified as Somveer Kumar, Mayank Singh and Sunil Kumar. The trio was shifted to 92 base hospital Srinagar for treatment.

Earlier, on Wednesday evening, a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, CRPF and J&K Police had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) in Check Nowgam village following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.
