JAMMU — Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said there has been no hike in electricity tariffs in the Union Territory since December 2023, assuring that billing is being carried out transparently and strictly as per rules.
Replying to a question raised by NC MLA Bashir Ahmed Veeri in the Assembly, Abdullah said power bills in metered areas are generated purely on the basis of actual consumption recorded, leaving no scope for arbitrariness.
In non-metered areas, he said billing is done on a flat-rate basis in accordance with the sanctioned load and existing norms.
The chief minister said that tariff determination or any rationalisation, if required, falls under the jurisdiction of the Jammu and Kashmir Electricity Regulatory Commission (JKERC), which follows prescribed legal procedures, parameters and regulatory guidelines while fixing rates.
He also clarified that transmission losses are not passed on to consumers. — (PTI)
