Over 30,000 vacancies to be filled in J&K in 2026: Omar Abdullah

JAMMU — Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday reiterated that his government is committed to filling vacancies in a time-bound manner, announcing that over 30,000 vacant posts will be filled in 2026.

Replying to a question raised by Prof Gharu Ram Bhagat during Question Hour of the ongoing Budget session of the Legislative Assembly, Abdullah said vacancies arise from time to time across government departments due to retirements, promotions, resignations and other administrative reasons.

He informed the House that institutional mechanisms are in place for periodic assessment of vacancies and timely referral to recruiting agencies in accordance with statutory provisions.

“To ensure that essential services and field-level functions are not adversely affected, adequate staff strength is maintained across departments. Wherever necessary, interim administrative arrangements are adopted as per established rules,” the chief minister said.

He added that the government has taken several measures to speed up recruitment, including advance identification and consolidation of vacancies, time-bound submission of requisitions to recruiting agencies, streamlining procedural requirements and regular monitoring at the administrative level.

“These steps are aimed at ensuring efficiency and transparency in the recruitment process,” Abdullah said. — (PTI)
