SRINAGAR — A Pakistani militant, affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit was killed in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Kapren village in Shopian district of South Kashmir on Friday.
Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Kapren village in Shopian district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.
They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
In the encounter, one militant identified as Kamran Bhai @ Hanees from Pakistan was killed. He was affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit.
Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 01 AK-74, 04 Magazines were recovered from the site of encounter.
According to police statement, the killed militant was a categorized militant and involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilian atrocities.
The statement said that the killed militant was active in Kulgam-Shopian area and was trying to revive the militant folds of JeM militant outfit by recruiting and motivating the gullible youth to join militant folds besides, planning to execute militant attacks.
Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar has congratulated the joint team of police and security forces for conducting successful operation without any collateral damage and termed the operation as a big success. — (KIMS)
