PD Awantipora: 5 militants slain in twin encounters in 24 hours

Slain Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant’s father among slain in Tral encounter 

SRINAGAR — Five militants belonging to two different militant outfits were killed in two different encounters at Khrew and Tral areas of PD (Police District) Awantipora in Pulwama district on Friday and Saturday.

Reports said, a Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) was launched jointly by the team of government forces Army’s 50 RR, 185 BN CRPF and J&K Police in Khrew area of Pampore on Friday following the inputs about presence of militants in the area. Same kind of operation was jointly launched by Indian Army’s 42 RR and J&K Police in Nagbaran area in Tral forests.

On Friday two militants from Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit were killed in an encounter between government forces and militants at Khrew area of Pampore and they were identified as Musaib Ahmad Bhat from Khrew Pampore and Muzamil Ahmad Rather from Chakoora Pulwama. In less than 24-hours three militants from Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit were killed in another encounter at Nagbaran forests in Tral on Saturday and they were identified as Wakeel Ahmad Shah from Bagandar Tral, Illyas Najar from Khellan Pulwama and Abdul Hameed Chopan. Hameed’s Son Aadil Ahmad Chopan was also a militant and was killed in an encounter in 2017. He was associated with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit.

Incriminating material, arms and ammunition including One AK-Rifle and One Pistol were recovered from encounter site in Khrew while as SLR looted from minority guard at Zainpora Shopian on 11/12/ 2018 was recovered from encounter site at Nagbaran Tral.
