Police busts inter-state drug trafficking module in Srinagar, two arrested

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The police have dismantled a significant inter-state drug trafficking network while investigating Case FIR No. 136/2024 under sections 8/22-29 of the NDPS Act.

Police in a statement said, “This breakthrough highlights the department’s unwavering commitment to combating the drug menace.”

Based on evidence, including bank transactions and communication records, two key drug suppliers—Raju Gupta of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, and Mohammad Abrar of Bhajanpura, Delhi—were identified as primary sources of narcotics supplied to local drug peddlers.

“A Srinagar police team, led by SI Amandeep Singh of Police Post Noorbagh, carried out extensive operations in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi over 10 days with the assistance of local police. Raju Gupta was apprehended on January 23, 2025, in Bareilly, and Mohammad Abrar was arrested on January 24, 2025, in Bhajanpura. Both suspects were presented before the respective courts, transit remands were secured, and they are now in police custody,” the statement said.

Additionally, police identified a suspicious courier parcel linked to the accused in Loni, Ghaziabad. “Efforts are underway to retrieve the parcel with court approval. The financial transactions and properties of the accused are also under investigation for possible attachment under the NDPS Act,” the statement said.

The case originated on November 8, 2024, during routine police naka checking at Tarbal Chowk, Srinagar. “A motorcycle was intercepted, leading to the arrest of three drug peddlers: Aijaz Ahmad Ganie (Athwajan Pantha Chowk), Owais Ahmad Gojri (Brari Pora), and Mir Roman (Ali Masjid Eidgah). During the operation, police seized 140 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, ₹38,530 in suspected drug proceeds, three mobile phones, and a drone camera allegedly used to monitor drug buyers,” the statement said.

“The backward linkages uncovered during the investigation led to the identification and arrest of the two drug dealers from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh,” the statement added.

Investigations are ongoing, and police anticipate more arrests and seizures in the coming days. — (KIMS)
