Police officer shines in Bollywood, bags best upcoming lyricist award

MUMBAI — Kashmir-based lyricist Peer Zahoor has bagged the ‘upcoming lyricist award’.

Peer Zahoor, a KPS officer from Kashmir received the award for penning down ‘Rubaru’ song that was part of the Bollywood movie ‘Ginny Weds Sunny.’

Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that among the five persons nominated under ‘ Best Upcoming Lyricist’ category, Peer Zahoor was chosen for his lyrics ‘Rubaru’ by the jury headed by famous Bollywood icon Javed Akhter.

Besides, Javed Akhtar, the other members of the jury were music composers like Pandit Sujit Ojha, Anu Malik, Lalit Pandit, Louis Banks, singers including Shankar Mahadevan, Kavita Krishna Murti, Alka Yagnik, Sadhna Sargam, Suresh Wadekar, Sukhwinder Singh and Udit Narayain. Lyricist Prasoon Joshi and Bollywood Directors including Ramesh Sippy, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra were also part of the jury.

Peer Zahoor has already penned down a number of hit Kashmir songs including ‘Peer Myanio, Khodaya, Salam-e-Wazwane, Meinz Raat, Mangun Tagima, Rouvmut, Dildar which have already received a lot of appreciation.

Last year, on ‘Father’s Day’ SoundKraft Kashmir had released his song ‘Baabo’ dedicated to fathers for their selflessness, love, and affection towards their children and this song received millions of hits on social media. — (KNT)
