Security forces launch massive search operation in Rajouri, Udhampur to track down terrorists

JAMMU — Security forces on Wednesday intensified their search for terrorists believed to be hiding in remote forest areas of Rajouri and Udhampur districts in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

A brief exchange of fire took place between police and terrorists in the Beeranthub area of Kandi in Rajouri on Tuesday evening, while three suspected terrorists were also sighted in the Dharni Top area of Basantgarh in Udhampur, they said.

Police, assisted by the Army and CRPF, strengthened the cordon around the suspected locations and launched a massive search operation this morning to track down and neutralize the terrorists.

The operation was later extended to adjoining areas, though no fresh contact was established with the militants, the officials added.

Inspector General of Police (Jammu) Bhim Sen Tuti said on Tuesday, “An exchange of fire took place between terrorists and an SOG (Special Operations Group) team in the Beeranthub area of Kandi, Rajouri. Joint teams of Police, Army, and CRPF have cordoned off the area.” — (PTI)
