SMC engineer suspended over substandard macadamisation works in Srinagar, inquiry ordered

JAMMU — The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday suspended an SMC engineer over alleged substandard macadamisation and other developmental works carried out over the past two years.

According to an official order, Imtiaz Ahmad, In-charge Executive Engineer (Civil), Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), has been placed under suspension with immediate effect pending an inquiry under the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules.

During the suspension period, Ahmad will remain attached to the office of the Chief Engineer, PWD Zone North Kashmir, and will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per rules.

The government also ordered that Fareed Ahmad Khan, In-charge Executive Engineer, PWD Division Dalgate, will hold additional charge of Executive Engineer, City Roads (SMC) Division.

In a related development, Sushil Kumar, In-charge Chief Engineer, PWD Zone North Kashmir, has been appointed as inquiry officer to probe allegations of substandard road works and other projects executed during the last two years.

He has been directed to submit his report within 30 days, while Fareed Ahmad Khan will act as the presenting officer in the case.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary said the action followed receipt of a departmental report after allegations were raised by an MLA on the floor of the Assembly. — (PTI)
