SRINAGAR — Sopore Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested three militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit in Sopore town in North Kashmir on Thursday.
Sopore Police in a statement said, “Today on a specific input regarding movement of militants a joint naka was established at 18:40 hrs by PC Sopore, 52 RR, 177 BN CRPF at Takyabal Krankshivan Jurisdiction of Police Station Tarzoo.”
The statement said that “During checking a suspicious movement of three persons was observed who were comming from Dharnambal towards Takyabal and on seeing the naka party suspected persons tried to flee from the spot but the security forces apprehended them tactfully.”
“During search two pistols, two magazines, 10 pistol rounds, 01 hand grenade, 01 Ak 47 rifle were recovered from their possession”, the statement said.
The trio has been identified as Rahid Mushtaq Ganie S/O Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie R/O Amargarh, Amir Shafqat Mir S/O Mohammad Shafi Mir R/O Amargarh and Tahir Nisar Sheikh S/O Nisar Ahmad Sheikh R/O Baag e Rehmat Sopore.
The statement further said that “Preliminary investigation revealed the arrested individuals are uncategorised militants of proscribed organisation LeT, who were planing to attack security forces and civilians.”
“Accordingly case under relevant sections has been lodged at Police Station Tarzoo, further investigation is still going on”, the statement ends. — (KIMS)
