SRINAGAR – Renowned Social Activist and Executive Member South Asian Center for Peace Democracy and Development (SACPDD) Dr Rizwan Rumi has urged Government of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory to immediately stop the entry of tourists, labourers and beggars from other states from entering the valley to contain the sharp rise in Covid-19 cases.
The tourists who come to visit Kashmir can be the reason for spread of Covid-19 in the Kashmir valley and the Government should restrict their movement to avoid any harm. There should be proper testing of tourists before they enter into Kashmir valley.
Similarly large number of beggars from outside states can be seen across Kashmir valley and they can be major reason for rise in Covid-19 cases in the valley as they roam freely and touch anybody without following SoP’s (Standard Operating Procedure) and it can prove disastrous for all.
The labourers should also be tested before entering into Kashmir valley as many labourers arrive Kashmir in this season for work purposes. The government should make it mandatory for all labourers to test before entering here.
The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing around 2000 Covid-19 cases continuously from last many days. On Monday 2135 new Covid-19 cases and 25 deaths.
Dr Rizwan while talking with Kashmir Independent Media Service – KIMS said, “In this time of pandemic, Jammu and Kashmir particularly Kashmir valley is witnessing huge numbers which is a cause of concern. The authorities should immediately take necessary steps including banning outsiders to contain this deadly disease”.
“Kashmir valley lacks infrastructure to fight any disaster and people should follow guidelines strictly by keeping social distancing, wearing masks and follow all SoP’s for their own well-being,” he added.
He further said that the government can impose lockdown in phased manner to contain this deadly virus which cannot harm our economy as well. – (KIMS)
