Truck driver arrested with 211 kilograms of ‘Poppy Straw’ in Udhampur

JAMMU (KIMS)  — Jammu and Kashmir Police foiled a narcotics smuggling bid by recovering a huge quantity of psychotropic substance ‘poppy straw’ and arresting one person in Jakhani area of Udhampur district in Jammu division on Monday.

“Amid ongoing drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, one vehicle (Truck) bearing Registration Number HP73-B-2204, coming from Srinagar towards Jammu was stopped for checking by a team of police from Police Station Udhampur, led by its SHO at a naka at Jakhani area on National Highway. During checking of the vehicle, 8 bags (total net quantity 211 kgs) filled with poppy straw like substance were recovered,” police said in a statement.

“The said person, identified as Mohd. Hanief (Driver) Son of Haider Ali, a resident of Toli village in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh has been arrested on spot and the vehicle and contraband was also seized,” the statement said.

In this connection, a Case FIR No. 476/2024 under section 8/15 of NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Udhampur and investigation has been taken up. — (KIMS)
