SHOPIAN — Two militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit were killed in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Kanjikullar village in Shopian district of South Kashmir on Wednesday.
Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Kanjikullar village in Shopian district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.
They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
In the encounter two militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit were killed and they have been identified as Jan Mohd Lone of Shopian and Tufail Ganai.
Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 01 AK 47 rifle and a pistol was recovered from the site of encounter.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir vijay Kumar said, “Jan Mohd Lone was involved in recent killing of Vijay Kumar, a non-local Bank Manager in Arreh Mohanpora village in Kulgam district on 2nd June, 2022”. — (KIMS)
