Two local Lashkar militants killed in Kulgam encounter

KULGAM — Two local militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit were killed in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Trubji in Nowpora-Kharpora area of Kulgam district in South Kashmir on Monday.

Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Trubji in Nowpora-Kharpora area of Kulgam district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

In the encounter two local militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit were killed and they have been identified as Zubair Ahmad Mir from Qaimoh Kulgam and Idrees Ahmad Dar from Kulpora Kulgam.

Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.

According to police statement, “both the killed militants were categorized and involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/security forces and civilian atrocities including killing of PRIS.”

“The killed militant Zubair Ahmad Mir was active since Aug-2021 and was trying to revive the militant folds by recruiting & motivating the gullible youth including militant Idrees Ahmad to join militant folds”, the statement said. — (KIMS)
