Two more individuals arrested, three minor girls rescued in Baramulla human trafficking case

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — In a significant development in the ongoing human trafficking case in Ushkara Baramulla, two more individuals have been arrested, and three additional minor girls have been rescued. This brings the total to four accused arrested and seven minor girls rescued so far.

“The investigation, under case FIR No. 173/2024, revealed the involvement of Ghulam Mohammad Khan, son of Ab Rehman from Narbal, and Manzoor Ahmad Shah, son of Gh Mohammad from Janbazpora, in the trafficking and exploitation of minor girls from outside the Union Territory,” police said in a statement.

“A police team from Police Station Baramulla, led by SHO PS Baramulla and supervised by DySP Hqrs Baramulla, apprehended the suspects, who were shifted to Police Station Baramulla. The rescued victims, identified as Rohingya girls from Burma, were also safely recovered and brought to the police station,” the statement added.

Earlier, two individuals identified as Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Ushkura, and Mehraj Ahmad Tantray, a resident of Kanlibagh Baramulla, were arrested, and four minor girls were rescued during the initial investigation.

“This ongoing operation underscores the Baramulla Police’s commitment to combating human trafficking and safeguarding vulnerable individuals,” the police said. — (KIMS)
