BANDIPORA — The residents of Vijpara in Hajin Tehsil of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district are up in arms against the PHE department as they have failed in providing drinking water facilities to the area for the past 12 years.

Locals while talking to news agency Kashmir Dot Com said that for the past 12 years, they have been moving from pillar to post to get their issue redressed but failed.

“In absence of drinking water facility in the area, they are forced to go for kilometres to fetch water which is highly contaminated due to which water borne diseases can break out anytime in the area.” they said.

After staging protests several times in the area, authorities proposed a water supply scheme for the area in 2021 and it was decided that the scheme will be constructed in Kundji Mohalla, they added.

“However, people from our neighbouring Khusar-pora area are using this approach to divert the same scheme to their area which will be injustice with the people of Kundji mohalla.” locals alleged.

“Kundji Mohalla consists of over 150 households who are suffering in absence of potable water while Khusar-Pora Naidkhai there are just 40 households.” they said.

They requested concerned authorities to look into the matter and construct the proposed water supply scheme in Kundji mohalla Vijpara so that the issue of water crisis will be over in the area once for all and locals can heave a sigh of relief. — (KDC)
