SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Waheed Para on Thursday said his resolution to restore the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board was dropped in the Assembly ballot.
“Our resolution to restore the J&K Waqf Board and hand over its custodianship to the Muttahid-e-Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) was dropped in the Assembly ballot,” Para said in a post on X.
Addressing the matter, Para said he would formally request Assembly Speaker A.R. Rather to exercise his discretion to include the resolution in legislative business.
He added that Waqf is a sensitive, faith-linked issue that deserves debate and a return to local religious leadership under Mirwaiz of Kashmir.
Para had moved a resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly seeking the restoration of the J&K Waqf Board and its custodianship to the Muttahid-e-Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), a conglomerate of religious bodies headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. — (KIMS)
