12 arrested in rice pulling machine scam in Ganderbal, fake currency recovered: Police

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — At least 12 persons were arrested in Kangan area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district in fake rice pulling machine scam and fake currency was recovered from their possession.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police in a press release said, “An information was received by Police Station Kangan through reliable sources that some persons are moving in suspicious manner at Kijpara, behind Dumping Park.”

“Acting swiftly, a special Police team was constituted on the directions of SSP Ganderbal Sandeep Gupta-IPS under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Muzaffar Jan-JKPS, led by SHO Kangan Turk Zahoor raided the spot and apprehended 12 persons who were roaming in suspicious conditions,” the press release said.

“The arrested persons were identified as Riyaz Ahmad Mir, S/O Ghulam Ahmad Mir R/O Kijpara Kangan, Ghulam Nabi Malik S/O Mohd Abdullah Malik R/O Lari Preng, Arshid Ahmad Wani S/O Mohd Akbar Wani R/O Hajan Bandipora, Mohd Zubair S/O Abdul Aziz Bijran R/O Babanagri Wangat, Zahoor Ahmad Salro S/O Mohd Rafiq R/O Shopian Bungam, Abaas Ahmad Sofi S/O Abdul Salam Sofi R/O Shopian Bungam, Bilal Ahmad Sofi S/O Abdul Salam Sofi R/O Shopian Bunpora, Faroze Ahmad Thokar S/O Ali Mohd Thokar R/O Mastpora Keller Shopian, Raja Rameez S/O Abdul Rashid Shah R/O Kulgam, Ishfaq Ahmad Wani S/O Mohd Akbar Wani R/O Hajan Bandipora, Zubair Ahmad Bijran S/O Ghulam Hassan Bijran R/O Poshkar Kangan and Khurshid Ahmad Mir S/O Fayaz Ahmad Mir R/O Kijpara,” it said.

“During the search of apprehended persons, 30 bundles of Rs 50,000 each, which constitutes a total Rs 15,00,000 fake currency Notes of (Children Bank) & total cash of Rs 56,600 (Indian currency) were recovered from their possession,” it added.

It further said that five vehicles bearing Registration Numbers JK15-4533 (Alto-K10), JK18B-2652 (Baleno), JK18D-3543 (Alto-K10), JK01AU-5420 (I-20) & PB01A-9585 (Etios) used by them in the commission of crime have also been seized on the spot.

In this regard, a Case FIR No. 08/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Kangan and further investigation is in progress. — (KIMS)
