ACB Arrests Geology & Mining official for accepting bribe in Ganderbal

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against an official of the Geology and Mining Department in Ganderbal for allegedly demanding a bribe.

According to a written complaint received by the ACB, the accused official, identified as Gh. Mustafa (D.H), in-charge of the area, allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹20,000 from a complainant who owns a JCB machine.

The complainant had approached the official seeking guidance on legal formalities for lifting soil from a specific land parcel. Instead of offering legal assistance, the official allegedly suggested bypassing the formalities and demanded ₹20,000 for granting unofficial permission for three days, including an advance of ₹10,000.

Following the complaint, the ACB conducted discreet verification through a designated officer. The verification confirmed the allegations, establishing that the public servant had indeed demanded illegal gratification.

Based on the findings, an FIR (No. 10/2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended) was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar. A trap team was formed, and a successful operation was carried out.

During the operation, the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹10,000 from the complainant. He was immediately taken into custody.

Further investigation is underway. — (KIMS)
