JAMMU (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday dismissed a Selection Grade Constable from service after a departmental inquiry found him guilty of misconduct in connection with an NDPS case in Kathua district.
According to a police statement, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua Mohita Sharma (IPS) ordered the dismissal of Selection Grade Constable Aftab Ahmed (Belt No. 498/K, PID No. EXJ-117525), resident of Pouni, Tehsil and District Reasi, reinforcing the police’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics.
The statement said the action followed a departmental inquiry linked to FIR No. 55/2026 registered under Sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Billawar.
The constable was apprehended during naka checking by a police team of Police Station Billawar after heroin was allegedly recovered from his possession.
Following the incident, the official was placed under suspension with immediate effect vide DPO Kathua OB No. 229 of 2026 dated April 8, 2026, and a departmental inquiry was initiated. The inquiry was entrusted to the Superintendent of Police (Operations), Upper Kathua.
Police said the inquiry officer, in his findings submitted on July 27, 2026, concluded that the charges against the constable had been proved and recommended the major penalty of dismissal from service.
Acting under Rule 335 of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Rules, SSP Kathua ordered the immediate dismissal of the official from service to enforce institutional discipline and serve as a deterrent against involvement in narcotics-related offences.
Police reiterated that strict action will continue against any member of the force found involved in drug-related activities. — (KIMS)
