SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Police on Friday claimed to have solved a blind murder and kidnapping case within 12 hours by arresting the accused and safely rescuing a minor girl in the Khansahib area of the Budgam district.
According to a police statement, Police Station Khansahib received information at around 3:05 am regarding an accident at Chek Sheera area of Khansahib in which an unknown vehicle had allegedly run over a female pedestrian, resulting in her death.
Following the incident, FIR No. 96/2026 under Sections 125A and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Khansahib and investigation was initiated.
During investigation, police found that the minor daughter of the deceased woman had been kidnapped and that the woman was killed while attempting to prevent the kidnapping.
Police said a special team under the supervision of SDPO Khansahib launched an intensive investigation involving analysis of multiple CCTV footages and technical evidence.
Through sustained efforts, the accused was traced and arrested from Parimpora area of Srinagar, while the kidnapped 15-year-old girl was rescued safely within 12 hours of the incident, the statement said.
Police added that relevant sections pertaining to murder and kidnapping were subsequently added to the case and further investigation is underway.
