JAMMU — The Jammu and Kashmir government has formed inspection committees across all districts of the Union Territory to ensure regular monitoring and improvement of facilities in hostels functioning under various departments.
A five-member panel for each of the 20 districts, headed by the additional district development commissioner (ADDC), has been formed, officials said.
According to an order issued by the government on Wednesday, the committees have been tasked with conducting monthly inspections of all hostels within their respective districts.
“Their mandate includes assessing the quality and safety of food served to inmates, hygiene and sanitation standards, living conditions, drinking water facilities, waste disposal systems and the overall condition of hostel infrastructure, including accommodation, toilets, bathrooms, electricity, ventilation and safety arrangements,” the order issued by Commissioner-Secretary, General Administration department, M Raju said.
The inspection teams will also examine maintenance of records, accounts, expenditure and procurement processes to ensure proper utilisation of funds and adherence to financial rules and procedures, it added.
“They have been directed to recommend remedial measures for improving hostel management, safety, welfare and living conditions of inmates,” the order said.
According to the order, the committees will submit comprehensive monthly inspection reports to the deputy commissioners concerned, who will review the findings and recommendations and forward those to the relevant administrative departments for necessary action. — (PTI)
