SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said they have arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Anantnag district of South Kashmir and recovered contraband substances and cash from their possession.
According to a police statement, in the first operation, a team from Police Post Sherbagh intercepted a suspicious individual during routine naka checking at Sarnal near Pehru Crossing.
During his search, approximately 1.198 kilograms of charas powder was recovered from his possession. The accused was identified as Shahid Rafiq Nanda, son of Rafiq Ahmad Nanda, resident of Nandpora Anantnag.
Police said FIR No. 179/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Anantnag and investigation has been taken up.
In another operation, Police Station Bijbehara apprehended an alleged drug peddler during naka checking at Kerikadal.
The accused was identified as Mohammad Shafi Lone, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Lone, resident of K Kalan Bijbehara.
During his search, police recovered 56 grams of charas-like substance along with ₹6,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds of drug trafficking.
In this connection, FIR No. 162/2026 under Sections 8/29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara and further investigation is underway, the statement said. — (KIMS)
