JAMMU (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said they destroyed over 3.7 tonnes of seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances as part of the Government of India’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
According to a police statement, the destruction was carried out by the District Drug Disposal Committee (DDDC), Udhampur, under the chairmanship of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, in accordance with the provisions of the NDPS Act.
The seized contraband was scientifically incinerated at M/s Anmol Health Care, Vijaypur, Samba, on June 20 and June 27 after completion of all statutory legal formalities and in compliance with the guidelines of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the statement said.
Police said the destroyed narcotics included 3,695.921 kilograms of poppy straw, 71.332 kilograms of charas, 1.318 kilograms of heroin, 18 kilograms of cannabis (plant material), 885 grams of ganja and 21,965 capsules and tablets.
The statement said the destruction of the seized narcotics is aimed at preventing their re-circulation into society and reflects the commitment of Udhampur Police to eradicate the drug menace.
Police said the initiative forms part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, which focuses on combating drug trafficking and substance abuse through strict enforcement, public awareness and community participation.
Police also reiterated its commitment to taking stringent action against drug traffickers in Udhampur district and appealed to the public, particularly the youth, to support the mission of building a drug-free society by reporting drug-related activities and spreading awareness against substance abuse. — (KIMS)
