ANANTNAG (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered a case Anantnag district after a man allegedly cheated another of ₹8.25 lakh on the pretext of securing him a government job and facilitating permission for installation of tents at Pahalgam during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
According to a police statement, Police Post Khanabal received a written complaint from Waheed Ahmad Itoo, son of Gh. Nabi Itoo, resident of Hassan Noor, Aishmuqam, presently residing at GDC Boys Hostel, Khanabal, against Aabid Hussain Nengroo, son of Gh. Hassan Nengroo, resident of Krandigam, Bijbehara.
The complainant alleged that Nengroo represented that he could arrange a government job for him as a Special Police Officer (SPO) in the Police Department and could also facilitate permission for setting up tents at Pahalgam for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims using his political influence.
Based on these assurances, the accused induced the complainant to part with a total amount of ₹8,25,000, police said.
Taking cognisance of the complaint, Police Station Anantnag registered FIR No. 283/2026 under Sections 318(4) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and investigation has been initiated.
Anantnag Police has warned people against falling victim to fraudulent promises of government employment or other official benefits and said strict legal action would be taken against those found involved in such activities. — (KIMS)
