Jammu-Srinagar highway closed from both sides due to heavy rainfall

JAMMU (KIMS) — Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has been suspended from both ends after heavy rainfall made the road surface at the Dawal slide near Dawal Bridge in the Samroli area of Udhampur district highly slushy, muddy, and extremely slippery, officials said.

The highway has effectively become a single carriageway at the affected stretch, prompting authorities to stop vehicular movement as a precautionary measure.

Personnel from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), along with machinery and Traffic Police teams, have been deployed to clear the affected stretch and restore traffic.

Authorities have advised commuters to avoid travelling on NH-44 until the road is cleared and officially declared safe for traffic movement. People have also been urged not to pay attention to rumours and to rely only on official updates issued through the Traffic Police’s X (formerly Twitter) handle and Facebook page. — (KIMS)
