SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested two persons for allegedly extorting ₹24,000 from a man by threatening to falsely implicate him in a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Anantnag district of South Kashmir.
According to a police statement, Police Station Srigufwara received a complaint from Ajaz Ahmad Shah, son of Mohd Maqbool, a resident of Pethi Nambal Mattan, alleging that the accused had demanded and received ₹24,000 from him and threatened to implicate him in a false NDPS case if he failed to pay the amount.
Police said the allegations were verified and the complainant was found not to be involved in any such case. Subsequently, FIR No. 68/2026 was registered at Police Station Srigufwara under Sections 308(2)(6), 318(4) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the investigation, police identified and arrested both accused persons, namely Muzafar Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Mohd Mir, a resident of Veer Nowbugh, Bijbehara, and Jan Mohd Wagay, son of Ghulam Rasool, a resident of Pethi Nambal Mattan.
Anantnag Police said the arrests reflect its prompt response to the complaint and commitment to protecting citizens from intimidation, extortion and misuse of criminal threats.
