ANANTNAG — Police arrested three alleged drug peddlers in two separate incidents in Anantnag district and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials said on Wednesday.
During night patrolling in the Sallar area, a police party from Police Station Srigufwara apprehended two persons identified as Farhan Ahmad Shah and Ayaz Ahmad Shah, both residents of Sallar Sheikhpora. Police said 2.2 kg of contraband, comprising charas powder and charas sticks, was recovered from their possession.
A case under FIR No. 88/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Srigufwara and investigation initiated.
In a separate incident, police from Police Station Dooru intercepted a suspicious person during naka checking on the Verinag-Dooru road. The accused, identified as Shabir Ahmad Kalim of Malikpora Verinag, was allegedly found in possession of 11.2 grams of brown sugar.
Police registered FIR No. 150/2026 under relevant provisions of law at Police Station Dooru and started further investigation.
Anantnag Police said it would continue its action against the illegal trade and trafficking of narcotic substances. — (KIMS)
