REASI — Police have arrested six persons in an NDPS case and recovered 21.09 grams of heroin-like contraband along with sharp-edged weapons during an operation in the Guni Parthal area of Reasi, officials said on Tuesday.
The operation was conducted by a police team from Police Station Katra near Government Middle School, Guni Parthal, where the team noticed a group of suspicious persons. On seeing the police, the suspects allegedly tried to flee but were chased and apprehended.
During their search, police recovered 21.09 grams of heroin-like contraband, a weighing machine and other items suspected to be linked to the illegal trade of narcotic substances. A sword and two sharp-edged weapons, locally referred to as tokas, were also recovered from three of the accused, police said.
The arrested persons were identified as Sanjay Kumar, a resident of Didi Pangal; Ravi Kumar of Aghar Jitto; Mohan Singh and Vikram Singh, both residents of Didi Pangal; and Randhir Singh and Pardeep Singh, both residents of Parthal, Katra.
Police said some of the accused are habitual offenders and have previous FIRs registered against them at Police Station Katra.
A case under Sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act, Sections 132, 351(2) and 3(5) of the BNS, and Sections 4/25 of the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Katra.
Further investigation is underway to establish the source of the recovered contraband and identify others allegedly linked to the drug network. — (KIMS)
