JAMMU (KIMS) — The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a Patwari for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 in Kathua district.
According to an ACB statement, a case was registered at Police Station ACB Jammu against Khajan Chand, Patwari of Patwar Halqa Mahanpur, Kathua, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for allegedly demanding and accepting illegal gratification.
The ACB said the accused had allegedly demanded ₹20,000 from the complainant for providing documents after getting a mutation attested in favour of the complainant’s sister.
The complainant had already paid ₹9,000, while the accused was allegedly demanding the remaining amount. After negotiations, the bribe amount was settled at ₹10,000 for providing the documents along with a copy of the mutation, the statement said.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, following which a discreet verification was conducted. The verification corroborated the alleged demand of bribe, leading to the registration of FIR No. 05/2026 at Police Station ACB Jammu.
During the investigation, a trap team was constituted, which caught Khajan Chand red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe amount from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
The accused was arrested on the spot after completion of legal formalities, and the bribe money was recovered from his possession, the ACB said.
Searches at the residential premises of the accused are also being conducted in accordance with law.
