SRINAGAR (KIMS) — The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu and Kashmir on Friday said it has filed a chargesheet against a Fire and Emergency Services official in a bribery case before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Baramulla.
According to an ACB statement, the chargesheet was filed against Nisar Ahmad Wani, then Senior Fireman (Belt No. 1748) posted with Fire and Emergency Services Sopore, in connection with FIR No. 16/2024 registered at Police Station ACB Baramulla under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The case was registered on December 16, 2024, following a complaint alleging that the accused had demanded illegal gratification for facilitating the issuance of a Fire Safety No Objection Certificate (NOC) required for establishing a timber sale depot at Janbazpora in Baramulla district.
The complainant alleged that the accused had already received ₹1,500 towards application-related expenses and subsequently demanded ₹5,000 as a bribe on the pretext of fuel charges and other incidental expenses.
After conducting a discreet verification that prima facie substantiated the allegations, the ACB registered a case and constituted a trap team, the statement said.
During the trap proceedings conducted on December 16, 2024, the accused was allegedly caught while demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.
The tainted money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses. The hand wash and pocket wash samples of the accused later tested positive for phenolphthalein and sodium carbonate during forensic examination conducted by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Srinagar, the ACB said.
The accused was arrested and subsequently released on bail by the court.
Following completion of investigation and after obtaining the requisite prosecution sanction from the competent authority under Section 19 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the ACB presented the chargesheet before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court, Baramulla.
Further proceedings in the case are pending before the court. — (KIMS)
