Army douses flames in Shopian village; locals hail efforts

SHOPIAN — The Indian army on Thursday saved the lives of hundreds of people in south Kashmir’s Shopian district after a massive fire erupted in the locality.

As per the local residents, on this evening a massive fire erupted in a structure at the Dagpora area and was spreading in the nearby structure.

The locals present swung into action and tried to douse the flames. In the meantime, the local Army 44 RR was informed by the locals, and with their efforts, the flames were doused.

The locals said if they hadn’t reached on time, several structures worth lakhs of rupees would have been gutted and turned into ashes.

Later, the Army was joined by the fire and emergency departments, which helped the locals douse the flames.

The locals of the vacanity have expressed gratitude to the local army unit for reaching out to the village within time to save their lives and property.

“Whenever there are any issues, the local army unit always stands with us,” said the elders of this village. — (KIMS)
