Armyman killed in Kokernag encounter, militants flee

ANANTNAG — Militants have managed to flee from the encounter site at Watnar area of Kokernag in Anantnag district in South Kashmir on Saturday.

Reports said an armyman identified as Sepoy Nishan Singh of 19 RR Sikhli Charlie Company was killed during the initial firing.

Earlier, a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Watnar, Kokernag following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter. — (KIMS)
