Baramulla encounter ends, top LeT Commander Yousuf Kantroo among three militants slain

BARAMULLA — Three Lashkar-i-Toiba (LeT) militants including a top Commander were killed and five armed personnel including a policeman were injured in an encounter between government forces and militants at Malwah, Pariswani area of Baramulla district in North Kashmir on Thursday.

Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Malwah, Pariswani on Thursday following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

In the encounter, three Lashkar-i-Toiba (LeT) militants identified as top Commander Mohd Yousuf Dar @ Kantroo, son of Abdul Dar from Check Kawoosa Budgam, Hilal Ahmad Sheikh from Shrakwara Baramulla and Faisal Dar (17), from Aripanthan Budgam were killed.

Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from encounter site.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar while terming the killing of Yousuf Kantroo a big success said, “He was involved in several killings of civilians & SFs personnel including recent killing of JKP’s SPO & his brother, one Soldier and one civilian in Budgam district.”

“Yousuf Kantroo had killed BDC Chairman Late Sardar Bhupinder Singh on 23/9/20 in his own native place in Khag area. Case FIR No 79/20 was registered against terrorist Kantroo in PS Khag,” IGP Kashmir said. — (KIMS)
