Boat capsizes in river Jhelum in Srinagar, 4 dead

SRINAGAR — In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a boat ferrying students and parents from Gandbal, PS Nowgam to Batwara, RM Bagh capsized in the Jhelum River.

Reports reaching Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com that amidst the chaos, heroic efforts were made to rescue those onboard, with around 10 individuals successfully pulled from the water thus far. However, the toll of the tragedy is profound, with four souls tragically lost in the ordeal.

Those who lost lives were identified as Shabir Ahmad (26), 2 females aged 32 and 18 years respectively and Gulzar Ahmad (41) were declared dead at SMHS hospital Srinagar.

As details continue to unfold, locals are expressing anger and frustration, attributing the incident to an incomplete bridge in the area. They’ve lashed out at the administration, demanding accountability and swift action to prevent such tragedies in the future. — (KDC)
