SRINAGAR — A convoy carrying Mehbooba Mufti, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), met with an accident in Bijbehara area of South Kashmir.
The incident resulted in injuries to one Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel.
Reports reaching Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com said the accident occurred when Mufti’s cavalcade was en route to a scheduled public meeting.
According to initial reports, the driver of one of the escort vehicles lost control, leading to a collision with an ‘auto’. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The ITBP personnel, who sustained injuries, was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have confirmed that the injuries are not life-threatening and that the individual is in stable condition.
Mehbooba Mufti, who was in a different vehicle within the convoy, was unhurt and continued to her scheduled engagements after ensuring that the injured personnel received medical attention.
Local police and security agencies have launched a detailed investigation into the accident to ascertain all factors that might have contributed to the mishap. — (KDC)
