Congress rejects Delimitation Commission’s Draft proposal

JAMMU — J&K Congress criticized the BJP led government for playing with the sentiments of people of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory and severely rejected the Draft proposal prepared by the Delimitation Commission on the behest of ruling government at the Centre.

Today a Congress Rally was held at Paloura, Organised by District Congress Committee Rural President Hari Singh Chib.

Speaking on the occasion, JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla said that the Draft Report lacks political, social and administrative reason to justify the recommendations.

He said earlier it was claimed that the delimitation exercise was being undertaken to make Assembly seats contiguous with the district.

“But the draft report is showing a different picture altogether,” he said.

He said proposed report is visibly disproportionate and encourages doubts of favoritism towards a specific political party.

“Report defeats the very idea of a secular India and compromises on the rules guiding the process involved in territorial delimitations of Assembly constituencies as mandated by the Election Commission of India and the constitution. The local population has a deep resentment over BJP’s arbitrary laws, which routinely gives them an impression of disempowerment and adds further to the feeling of alienation,” the former minister said, adding that his Party is resolute in its demand that these decisions fall specifically under the domain of an elected government while the current administration must focus on safeguarding the rights of the people, curbing spiking unemployment rates and inflation in the Union Territory.

Mula Ram, senior Congress leader and former Minister said BJP government at the Centre has not done any work in the public interest in J&K.

“The BJP is a strange party that is making tall claims without doing anything. The double engine government of the BJP has harassed every section of society and has not done anything itself but has been appearing in advertisements claiming the works of the Congress party as its own,” he said.

The former minister gave a clarion call to people in J&K and across the country to root out the BJP government which, according to him, is weakening the rural economy and hereditary trades, and playing havoc with the farm sector only to hand over agriculture sector to the corporate sector.

Accusing the BJP of disregarding the aspirations of the people of J&K and ignoring the burning issues of masses in J&K, Ravinder Sharma, Chief Spokesperson, J&K Congress said that the ruling party had failed to inspire millions of the new UT.

The party had given wide publicity to public issues during 2019 elections with high hopes generated amongst various sections of society which eventually ended in smoke, Sharma said, adding that the so called Vision of BJP had caused huge disappointment not only amongst the common masses but had also democratized the die-hard supporters of the BJP regime. Centre should accept the demand for restoration of statehood to J-K in the interest of the Constitution and democracy, he added.

Launching a scathing attack on the government, Hari Singh Chib, President DDC Jammu Rural asserted that without a dedicated government elected by the people Jammu and its people are being neglected and overlooked. From national issues like skyrocketing fuel and food prices and the pandemic that went of out of control, to regional issues specific to Jammu including economic exploitation in the name of toll plazas, taxes and ending of Darbar move , the people have had to deal with a lot.

“There is zero focus on development, the Infrastructure is dying out, and people are being denied basic civic amenities like power and water. So, there is an urgent need for decentralisation of power so that a leadership that is more privy to the issues of the region can address them and resolve them. The Congress party will keep fighting for statehood and for the best interests of people of J&K until it is done,” he added.

Addressing meeting, Uday Bhanu Chib, President J&KPYC said BJP led Government failed to protect jobs and lands of the locals. He said many BJP leaders gave assurances to enact law for protecting jobs and lands of the locals from J&K, but they have totally failed to protect the same. Uday Chib said that unemployment in J&K has reached alarming situation and this Government has failed to protect jobs of the local educated youth.

He cautioned the present administration to take note of the situation as the frustration is on rise among the educated youth.

He urged the Government to generate more employment opportunities for the locals in J&K.

Uday said Congress always stood by the people of J&K but BJP failed to address the legitimate aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, saying that words alone won’t suffice to improve the situation on the ground.

Later, the senior Congress leaders mourned the said demise of Vikram Singh, son of Kounsal Singh, resident of Bhalwal by observing two minutes silence.

Those present on the occasion include S/Shri Satish Sharma, Kuldeep Verma, Ricky Dalotra, Latish Sharma, Rajinder Kumar Happy, Corporator Rashpal, Bittu Ram Pal, Panch Pappu, Block President Jung Bhadur Sharma, Prem Singh, Rattan Lal, Vikrant Singh, Parshotam Singh, Gopal Dass, Kuldeep, Sunny Jatt, Ajju Manhas, and others. — (KIMS)
